WONWOO, a member of the group SEVENTEEN, surprised fans today (the 17th) by releasing a self-composed song titled “고개 (The hill)” in celebration of his birthday.

“고개 ” is a ballad carried by a soft blend of piano and string sounds, with a chorus that builds as the emotions rise, leaving a lasting impression. The lyrics, which liken climbing a hill to facing life’s challenges, deliver a message of hope: even when the path is difficult, one should not lose heart and continue moving forward toward tomorrow.
WONWOO personally participated in writing and composing the track, sincerely conveying his deep affection for his fans.
His desire to cherish the hills he’s already climbed with CARATs (the fandom name) as treasured memories, and to joyfully overcome those yet to come, is reflected in the song. He experimented with a new vocal style suited to the song’s atmosphere, showcasing a gentle and husky tone that highlights the depth of his musical range.
The music video, released simultaneously with the track, is an animated short film that tells the story of a lonely cat who meets a butterfly and crosses a hill together with it. The lyrical storytelling, which seems to mirror the journey shared between WONWOO and his fans, leaves a lasting emotional impact on the viewer.
WONWOO has continued to broaden his musical spectrum not only through SEVENTEEN’s group albums, but also in unit projects and solo songs, exploring various genres. In “99.9% (WONWOO Solo)”, from SEVENTEEN’s 5th full-length album, he created a bright, refreshing vibe with rock-inspired sounds; and in “휴지통”, another solo track featured on his first duet single with JEONGHAN, he showcased a voice full of emotional depth.
Pledis Entertainment stated, “‘고개 ’ is a song that captures WONWOO’s warm and mature emotional sensibility. We hope this track will bring quiet comfort to anyone currently climbing their own hill.”
