The Korea-China Youth Union announced on August 21 that it had organized a forum titled “The Future of Korea and China Proposed by Korean and Chinese Youth” on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This event, held at the National Assembly Hall in Yeouido, marks the first initiative since the establishment of diplomatic relations to be led by the youth of both countries, aimed at developing Korea-China relations.
During the forum, an IP symbolizing Korea-China friendship was unveiled, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Global Korea-China Association and Heyf, to promote cultural exchanges between Korean and Chinese youth. The agreement specifically includes supporting the entry of the idol group NCHIVE into the Chinese market and launching various cultural exchange projects.
Woo Su Geun, President of the Global Korea-China Association, said:
“Since this is the first initiative of its kind entirely created by the youth since Korea and China established diplomatic relations, it is a very meaningful event. I hope the youth of both countries, as the future generation, will strengthen friendly relations through more exchanges.”
Hong Ki Won, Democratic Party lawmaker and Secretary-General of the Korea-China Parliamentary Association, added:
“Korea and China have gone through difficult periods, which interrupted youth exchanges. The future of bilateral relations rests on the shoulders of young generations. I hope more opportunities for young people from both countries to meet will be provided.”
Lee Sang Sik, Democratic Party lawmaker, emphasized:
“Korea and China are each other’s major trading partners, but it is regrettable that misunderstandings still persist. We must strengthen our friendship to build a shared future.”
Fang Kun, Deputy Minister at the Chinese Embassy in Korea, stated:
“China will continue to pursue friendship and common prosperity with Korea and further develop our partnership.”
Representatives of Korean and Chinese youth also delivered keynote speeches expressing their determination to improve bilateral relations. During a discussion session with seven youth representatives from both countries, the topics addressed included:
-
Current perceptions of Korea-China relations among youth
-
Sources of conflict and ways to cooperate
-
Future directions for cooperation
A Youth Manifesto was presented, sharing a vision of cooperation proposed directly by the youth of both countries. They stated:
“On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of Korea-China diplomatic relations, we, the youth of both countries, commit to building a bridge of trust and understanding to create a peaceful and sustainable future together. We choose cooperation over conflict, solidarity over isolation, respecting our differences and mutual cultures.”
The forum was co-organized by lawmakers Hong Ki Won, Jang Kyung Tae, and Lee Sang Sik, as well as by the Global Korea-China Association, with support from the Chinese Embassy in Korea and the Korea-China Parliamentary Association.
