Former 4MINUTE member KWON SO HYUN and JEON JI YOON revealed, after 9 years, the behind-the-scenes story of the group’s breakup.
On September 23, KWON SO HYUN’s YouTube channel, « 입장권소현 », posted a video titled « 언니 그때 왜 그랬어? | 지윤언니의 그때 입장 & 미공개 춤영상 (Eonnie, why did you do that back then? | Ji Yoon unnie’s entry & unreleased dance video) ».
In the video, KWON SO HYUN and JEON JI YOON spoke honestly about 4MINUTE’s dissolution. JEON JI YOON shared, in response to a question about the hardest period:
« The 1–2 years after 4MINUTE broke up were the hardest. »
She added, « It was a period where I completely lost my sense of belonging. After being somewhere for years, everything disappeared overnight. Losing that feeling of belonging was the hardest and most despairing thing. »
Hearing this, KWON SO HYUN said:
« When there were five of us, I only once said, “I don’t really know what I want, I’m unsure,” about renewing the contract, but I thought, “I’ve never talked to the president, and he’s the one who sent this notice to us?” It felt like the world was collapsing. »
The two members revealed that after receiving the breakup notice, they went together to the president of the agency. KWON SO HYUN explained:
« The group ended at a moment I didn’t expect, and that emptiness was huge. »
JEON JI YOON added, « That was the hardest time, but now, it’s just memories. »
KWON SO HYUN then asked JEON JI YOON, « Have you ever imagined what it would be like if our group got back together? » JEON JI YOON replied:
« At the time, I didn’t want the group to break up, so I tried to stop it. Every time we get together, it’s always fun. But a lot of time has passed, each of us has our own life, and we’ve been apart for so long, so I wonder if it would be like it used to be. »
4MINUTE debuted in 2009 but disbanded in 2016, after 7 years of activity. At that time, all members except HYUNA (Kwon So Hyun, Jeon Ji Yoon, Nam Ji Hyun, and Heo Ga Yoon) did not renew their contracts with the agency.
