The group I.O.I is making its return to the music industry on the occasion of its 10th debut anniversary.
SWING ENTERTAINMENT announced on February 23 “IM NAYOUNG, CHUNGHA, KIM SEJEONG, JUNG CHAEYEON, KIM SOHYE, YOO YEONJUNG, CHOI YOOJUNG, KIM DOYEON, JEON SOMI of I.O.I have confirmed their comeback in May” and “they are currently preparing a new album”. SWING ENTERTAINMENT will take charge of the management of I.O.I as well as the overall direction of comeback activities through this 10th anniversary project.
This activity, carried out about 9 years after 2017, is a reunion commemorating the 10th anniversary of I.O.I’s debut, giving it even greater meaning for fans. The members have consistently expressed their desire to reunite through various interviews and official appearances, and after long discussions, they have come together again. However, KANG MINA and ZHOU JIEQIONG (Kyulkyung) will not be able to participate in this activity due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts, and I.O.I will make its comeback with 9 members.
Having built active careers in their respective fields as solo artists, actresses, and entertainment personalities, the members reunite as one group after 10 years, drawing attention from fans around the world to the new music and enhanced performances that I.O.I will present. Interest is also focused on how the experience and individualities accumulated by each member will create synergy in group activities.
I.O.I is a project group formed in 2016 through public voting via the program “PRODUCE 101” of Mnet, and debuted in the music industry in May of the same year. Starting with their debut song “Dream girls”, they followed with hits such as “Whatta man”, “Very very very”, and “Downpour (소나기)”, winning first place on music shows and dominating major music charts, quickly establishing themselves as a representative K-pop girl group.
Based on these achievements, I.O.I won rookie awards at major ceremonies such as “MNET ASIAN MUSIC AWARDS”, “GOLDEN DISC AWARDS”, and “SEOUL MUSIC AWARDS”, proving its unique presence. In addition to music activities, the group was also active in various variety programs, solidifying its position as a “national girl group”, and officially concluded its activities with a concert in January 2017.
In addition to the release of this album, I.O.I plans to meet its international fans directly by organizing an Asian tour, starting with a concert in Seoul. They announce a show of exceptional scale to satisfy the anticipation of fans who have waited for 9 years, raising expectations for a dazzling highlight of their 10th anniversary activities.
