DABIT
The singer and streamer shares with a disarming honesty his romantic adventures in a vlog rich in twists and turns.
After an intense personal period, the artist DABIT resumes the rhythm of his social life in HONGDAE and delivers a filterless account of his latest dating experiences. Known for his proximity to his community, the one who leads both his musical career and his content creator activity transforms his romantic setbacks into a life lesson on self-assertion and respecting one’s own limits.
The first date of his journey turns out to be an unusual experience to say the least: after being postponed a first time, the one-on-one with a journalist lasted only twenty minutes. Urgently recalled for his work, the suitor had to leave the premises hurriedly, leaving DABIT to finish his cake alone, a bit disconcerted by what will remain as the shortest date of his existence. Despite excuses and a promise of a second date, the lack of news afterwards quickly closed this chapter.
The rest of the vlog leads us toward a second encounter with a taste of “déjà-vu”. DABIT finds there a profile with which he had matched on TINDER in the past, a story that had ended badly because of a canceled date and reactions judged passive-aggressive. Despite the doubts and the jabs of his interlocutor, the artist decides to try the experience “for the plot”. If the discussion turns out to be fluid and common points numerous, a major obstacle comes to end any hope of a follow-up: the profound gap in self-acceptance and visibility within Korean society.
It is on this point that DABIT concludes his video with a poignant reflection. Although he understands the difficulties linked to the social context in South Korea, he firmly affirms his refusal to return “into the closet” of someone else after having struggled so much to live his life in an authentic way. This search for someone being at the same life stage as him takes precedence over physical attraction, proving that behind the humor of the vlogs hides a strong and upright personality.
Between two missed dates and reflections on “red flags”, DABIT remains optimistic for the rest of his busy month of March.
