TREASURE - MMM
This Thursday, November 6th, YG Entertainment’s new boy group, TREASURE, is releasing their third mini-album along with the music video for their title track, “MMM“.
Just days after the official announcement of the return of boy group TREASURE, the music video for its new song “MMM” has already been released. Even though many videos revealed the first minute and a half upstream, the group’s performance came as a surprise by presenting a song and music video that was very different from what they have been able to present so far.
Indeed, while “BOY” and “ILY (I Love You)” highlighted the freshness of the group and its positive energy with poignant sounds and original sets, the boys come back with a more sober decor and colors. a song more unstructured than the previous ones. There is nothing negative about it because it is an effect which, although it can be disconcerting at first, can add a lot to the song, starting with key moments and twists, and make it more addictive. This song is surprising and people who are already familiar with the group are not mistaken: it was not produced by the same composer as the previous songs. But despite everything, the composer FUTURE BOUNCE managed to keep the spirit and the musical signature of TREASURE in his work, which thus places “MMM” in the continuity of “BOY” and “ILY (I Love You)” while advancing the group to something new.
The change is also reflected in the clip and the attitude of the boys in it. The twelve members are indeed more comfortable on screen and now dare to make facial expressions and more assertive movements. They seek to detach themselves from their figure of young adolescents to be more mature and attractive. In the space of just three months, since the release of “BOY” in early August, they have gained confidence and are now more confident, and it shows in the music video for “MMM“.
As for the choreography, they adopt many times their placement which has become essential, which takes the shape of their logo: a diamond made up of twelve four-pointed stars. This diamond placement is visually very effective and also allows optimal space occupation. In addition to group training where the precision of each person’s movements contributes to the coherence and visual beauty of the whole, we remember the moments when some members lean on others to jump (for example HYUNSUK which leans on JAEHYUK’s back before jumping and moving on to his rap during the first verse) or to stay high (YEDAM thus balances on JAEHYUK’s back, like MASHIHO on YOSHI’s, after the second chorus). This is not the first time that the boys have used this kind of acrobatics in their choreography and these passages are very appreciable because they testify to a strong mutual trust and the quality of the group work within TREASURE.
In short, a comeback which surprises but which reveals a new facet of this young group which thus passes a milestone. TREASURE thus begins the third chapter of its trilogy “THE FIRST STEP” composed of three single albums of which “BOY” and “I.L.Y (I Love You)” marked the first two parts. The series seems to end with “MMM“, whose physical album will be released on November 13th. But with this group, we can always expect twists and turns.
TREASURE has already marked the year 2020 because it is the rookie group (having debuted this year) to have sold the largest number of copies of their first physical album “THE FIRST STEP: CHAPTER ONE” in pre-order, proof that it was eagerly awaited by fans. The group is also nominated for Best New Male Artist of the Year at the Mnet Asia Music Awards (MAMA). The ceremony will take place on December 6th.
