Mnet launches a new international project.

Mnet said on January 11:
“We will present Girls Planet 999 where aspiring students from Korea, China and Japan will take on a new challenge to start a girl group that aims to be active on the global stage.”
“GIRLS PLANET 999“, which aims to be broadcast by the end of this year, is expected to be a program that will be produced with participants from Korea, China and Japan, who have the same dream, to join a group of idols, although the language and culture is different. “The journey to dreams and the growth process will take place in the ‘GIRLS PLANET 999‘ a virtual world that transcends countries and regions,” explained Mnet.
NCSoft’s global K-pop platform “UNIVERSE”, due for release early this year, will operate an official platform as a partner of “GIRLS PLANET 999“. In Universe, various digital content and services for fans around the world will be exploited, as well as global voting.
Mnet previously ran “I-LAND,” which aired last year, in conjunction with Big Hit’s “Weverse” fan community platform. The company plans to further expand its global influence in K-pop through a collaboration with NC. The show is also expected to air worldwide so that K-pop fans around the world can easily watch it.
“GIRLS PLANET 999” will recruit candidates until February 21st. Any Korean, Chinese or Japanese woman born before January 1st, 2006 can apply. Applications can be made even if they belong to an agency, are just starting out, or are ordinary applicants. Even if they are not of nationality of the three countries, the door of registrations is open if they have links with Korea, China and Japan through agencies or residences. More information on eligibility and how to support applicants can be found on the official page.

The first teaser for “GIRLS PLANET 999” was released with the start of recruiting candidates. The teaser begins with the narration of a girl’s footsteps in a snowy forest and the text “This is a story about the first steps of girls defying their dreams.” At the end of the video, three girls are shown connecting in a circle, which raises questions about how the meaning of “connection” will be represented in the program.
CJ ENM and NCsoft said earlier that they had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cooperate in companies in the content sectors and digital platforms. At that time, the two companies announced their goal of forming a joint venture this year as a result of the MOU and developing various content activities by combining CJ ENM’s know-how in the entertainment field and the computer technology from NCSoft.
