~ The evolution of his identity:
Since 2010, Seong HyunJin has found a lot of interest in the big universe of music. It was natural for him to start producing and training at making music from a young age, until today. Well surrounded by other artists in his daily life and better known under his stage name LOTION FUNK (also written LOTION FNK), his music is gathering people’s attention due to his very moody atmosphere.
His name is making a reference to the movie “About Time” adding to an onomatopoeia “펑” (= boom) which refers also to punk, a style that he enjoys pretty much.
“Before I only made hiphop” – LOTION FUNK
It is still a part of his current style, the “Boom clap”-like rhythm translates this hiphop influence. But with time, LOTION FUNK became more calm, kinda “coffee vibe” almost close to a lofi style sometimes.
And this “coffee vibe” atmosphere is the charming point of LOTION FUNK’s music. After the first time listening to his songs, all tracks just follow and stay always attractive. We easily add all of his tracks to our playlist since the mood is so comfortable.
The young artist, born in 1997, expresses in his interview his will to collaborate more with RnB artists. Open to any opportunity, his creativity will help him to adapt to any voice, any style who wants to feature him.
His point of view on his own music is pretty interesting. Instead of spreading a will to revolve the world with his art, LOTION FUNK describes:

We can notice his versatile abilities, that is how LOTION FUNK makes us fall for his universe. Sometimes solo, sometimes featuring, we can also hear some remixes that he makes and upload on SoundCloud. Freestyle and a lot of demo, the work of LOTION FNK has no limit.

In South Korea, where the military service is still mandatory to boys between 18 and 28 years old, most of Korean ending their duty takes some months to travel, enjoy their freedom, meet their friends, LOTION FUNK, him, get back his notebook and instruments and unveils “이륙”.
“I really wanted to do music in the army. I remember secretly working with an acoustic guitar, pen, and paper. I tried to comfort myself. I didn’t know I’d like this song this much. But after I made it, it was so enjoyable.” – LOTION FUNK
By it’s English title “이륙 (TAKE OFF)” became quite viral on social media. Even without knowing LOTION FUNK beforehand, we could hear “이륙 (TAKE OFF)” in some cafes in Korea.
Today, this production is the only official release by LOTION FUNK (even tho there are many available on SoundCloud plus his numerous collaborations)
“I’ve actually changed the album dozens of times. I just wanted to make one song that I really like. […] Actally “이륙 (TAKE OFF)” was the first track. If I have a chance, I think I’ll try again.” – LOTION FUNK

With role models such as FRANK OCEAN and DANIEL CAESAR, we easily recognize these influences in his tracks. Even if it’s a really “American style” it feels very good and refreshing to hear this kind of sounds in Korean.
Such as them, LOTION FUNK has a pretty nice and simple message from which we can learn a lot:

Even if he has no upcoming date for his projects, today’s artist would like to focus on collaborations from now on while making his music evolving on SoundCloud.
