Singer KANG DANIEL has filed a lawsuit against his agency’s majority shareholder, Konnect Entertainment, for allegedly forging his signature to sign a 10 billion won (US$7.3 million) deal without his knowledge, according to his lawyer said on Monday.
KANG DANIEL reported the 70% owner of Konnect Entertainment this Monday to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on charges of embezzlement, breach of trust, falsification of official documents and more.
The shareholder, whose name was not revealed by KANG DANIEL‘s lawyer or the press, forged the artist’s signature to sign a music distribution agreement worth 10 billion won in December 2022. KANG DANIEL only discovered this the following month and did not receive a response from the shareholder on the reason, despite the “numerous requests” made by the singer.
The shareholder allegedly sent more than 2 billion won to overseas bank accounts without KANG DANIEL‘s consent or the approval of the company’s board members. The shareholder further spent tens of millions of won via the company card and forged KANG DANIEL‘s name to use the money. KANG DANIEL also discovered that 1.7 billion won was missing from his own bank account, according to lawyer Park.
“My client has done his best to minimize the damage over the last year, taking into account everyone in the company he has worked with as CEO and as an artist over the five recent years,” the lawyer said in a press release.
“It was with a heavier heart that he filed a police report, as there was no other choice or solution left.”
KANG DANIEL debuted in 2017 after winning first place on Mnet’s hit K-pop audition show “Produce 101.”
He and 10 other finalists formed the boy project group WANNA ONE, which disbanded in early 2019. He debuted as a solo artist in July of that year after founding his own agency Konnect Entertainment and released songs like “Touchin'” (2019), “2U” (2020) and “Paranoia” (2021).
Konnect Entertainment is currently home to KANG DANIEL, CL, Yuju, Chancellor and We Dem Boyz.
