MICRODOT
Rapper MICRODOT is back with a new EP, named «DARKSIDE».

Former member of the group ALL BLACK having made its debut in 2006, MICRODOT is a multifaceted rapper, having also participated in 2015 in the famous show «SHOW ME THE MONEY 4» which highlights rappers of all horizons. He has also appeared on Channel A’s “THE FISHERMEN AND THE CITY” and MBC’s “I LIVE ALONE”, among others. To his credit, he has two studio albums, a collaborative album, five EPs, two physical singles, and twenty-two digital singles and is making a comeback for his latest EP, «DARKSIDE».
In 2018, the rapper is forced into exile, following a scandal where it is discovered that his parents swindled two million dollars to their loved ones, before running away. While initially denying the charges, he confessed that they were true, and that his parents were deported to New Zealand after serving time in Korea. During his absence from the spotlight, the artist worked hard in restaurants to repay the individuals and families affected by this scam, claiming that he would repay more than the amount stolen to take into account inflation, the theft dating from 1997. After a well-publicized return during the Fall Fashion Week last year in Seoul, it is his comeback that he makes today.

Concerning «DARKSIDE», this EP contains five tracks with the names of: «Unchanging», «Cruising», «Pu$y», «Pray for my enemies», «Alright», the title song being «Unchanging» (also called «Never change»). It is during a showcase held in Seoul that we (re) discover the rapper, the event having no photo session contrary to the usual. The clip is broadcast, all in black and white, to focus on the protagonists, this title being in collaboration with LOOPY and DBO. Then, the artist goes on stage, with a heavy voice, addressing the undoubtedly painful subject of his parents’ scam. Tears quickly rose to his eyes, and he expressed himself with a knotted throat:
« I start by wanting to apologize on behalf of my parents for all the harm they’ve done » —MICRODOT
He continues to affirm that he has come into contact with the victims to compensate them, and that he deeply regrets the actions of his parents. He then puts down his microphone, and bows down for a time to show his sincere apology for an act he did not commit, but whose repercussions have followed him for years. The MC then intervened, reminding journalists of some instructions to lighten the atmosphere. MICRODOT then resumes his microphone, to perform the first verse of «Unchanging», but a heavy emotion still hangs in the room. After taking the stage with the presenter, he describes this new EP as a personal journey, and the lessons he has learned in recent years. However, he comes back to his parents, saying that his parents regret the whole situation, and the consequences for their son.

He hopes that his audience will manage to put aside his tumultuous past to focus on his songs, and this mini-album of which he presents a medley that he performs directly, rather than broadcast a video. Subsequently, the CEO of his agency THE BIG BROTHER MOVEMENT joined him on stage, as if to express his support for MICRODOT, which takes a rather enclosed position on stage. However, he says he will do his best to change his image after this scandal. He wants to become an artist who gives strength to his fans, surrendering with sincerity on what he feels and has in his heart.
« I can’t say what kind of charm I have, but I hope that in the future more people will listen to me » — MICRODOT
He speaks to the cameras in the room, saying that he will not forget, and that we must not forget what happened in the past, but we must learn to live with it. He is then asked if he is still in contact with his parents, which he admits, because it was necessary for him to hear both sides, between his parents and the victims, to form his own opinion, and that it was important to receive an apology from his parents. It is also important to convey apologies to victims, either on behalf of his parents, or on his behalf, as a public figure representing this case. He then takes out a letter from his pocket, having prepared a letter of apology for the victims, and summarizing whether he could find common ground with them, which was done with some.

MICRODOT continues to do its best to apologize and repair the mistakes of the past, and after spending several years in the shadows, he estimated last year that it was time for him to return to the front of the media sphere. Growing up in New Zealand, it was symbolic for him to return to his native Korea to prove his sincere intentions. He has been working with his agency over the last two years to determine when the right time would be and what course of action should be taken. Looking back, he states that the case was far too publicized in 2018, and that he was not the “smartest” because by bringing in a lawyer from abroad for his parents, he considered having aggravated their case, and this caused him a lot of torment.
He suffered a lot from the isolation he lived, but faith allowed him to endure this wandering, praying a lot for things to be arranged one day for everyone. According to MICRODOT, he did everything possible today to redeem himself, even if a solution was not found with all the victims. He therefore continues to pray, to open his heart, so that peace may come to find his heart and that of the victims. However, as he must continue to work to repay them, he decided to hold this showcase to make his comeback, without informing the victims. With no choice but to work, he plans to redouble his efforts, even next year.
« It is true that victims may feel uncomfortable with my public return, but this is an opportunity for me to represent my apology, and if they give me the opportunity one day, I would like to be able to continue to present them, in person » —MICRODOT
He will not give more details on the victims, as the case is still under investigation regarding the restitution. He ended the showcase by approaching his collaboration with LOOPY, saying that he had known him for a long time, but that with the latest events they had lost contact. So he contacted him by message on Instagram, introduced him to the song, and LOOPY liked it, they decided to collaborate. The rapper ends by saying that he will continue to persevere and make efforts to regain the trust of his audience. Thanking once again the journalists, MICRODOT, its CEO, and the MC, left the scene.
