The singer KIM HO JOONG, who obtained a special parole, will finish his life in detention next June 30.

According to the media Dispatch on June 23, the parole review commission of the Ministry of Justice finally authorized the release of KIM HO JOONG during a meeting held recently. Arrested in May 2024, KIM HO JOONG will return to society after about 2 years and 1 month.
Incarcerated at the Seoul Detention Center, he had been transferred to Somang Prison in August of last year to serve the remainder of his sentence. Under the law in force, if a detainee serves more than 30% of his sentence, he can be placed on the review list, and his success is determined by combining his attitude in detention and the risk of recidivism.
KIM HO JOONG, who had been deemed inapplicable during the review at the end of last year, saw his exemplary prison life recognized subsequently and was placed on this list again.
On May 9, 2024, KIM HO JOONG was driving under the influence of alcohol in the Gangnam district of Seoul when he collided with an oncoming commercial vehicle before fleeing. Sentenced by the court to a prison term of 2 years and 6 months, he was initially scheduled to be released upon the expiration of his sentence next November 24. However, with this decision, he will return to society about 5 months earlier, after having completed about 80% of his sentence.
Even after his release from prison, he will remain under the supervision of a probation officer during the remainder of his sentence. Consequently, if he moves or travels abroad, he will have to obtain the prior approval of the judicial authorities.
