JUN of the group SEVENTEEN is preparing to make a new transformation as a solo artist through his first Chinese EP album “9”.
On the 24th, the agency Pledis Entertainment published a teaser video for the album, announcing JUN‘s new musical journey.
“9” came into being by drawing inspiration from the popular Chinese legend of the “nine-lived cat demon”, according to which a cat that trains relentlessly obtains nine tails and enjoys eternal life. Like a cat increasing the number of its tails one by one, the album traces the process by which one experiences unknown emotions one after another and fully accepts them to ultimately accomplish one’s true self.
The figure “9”, which is the title of the album, also has a meaning. The figure “9” is linked to the Chinese character “久” (long time), symbol of eternity in the Eastern cultural sphere, and contains the meaning of approaching accomplishment through the accumulation of a long time and repeated practice.
On this basis, JUN plans to convey the message according to which the process of accepting as they are, rather than ignoring or fleeing, the various emotions one is confronted with in relationships with others can ultimately become a path that brings growth. Not limiting itself to a simple figure, the album integrates the meanings of growth and accomplishment, drawing attention as to how JUN‘s own musical story will unfold.
The teaser video unveiled on that day also attracted attention by visually expressing the universe of “9”. In the video produced with a futuristic atmosphere, various objects having as a motif the figure “9” appeared inside a flickering glass marble, stimulating curiosity. Next, the space transformed as if sucked into a new world, completing a mysterious and immersive atmosphere.
JUN‘s solo comeback comes about 3 years and 2 months after the release of his Chinese digital single “PSYCHO” in July 2023. During this period, JUN built his own musical color by presenting solo songs of various genres, such as “Limbo”, “Silent boarding gate” and “Can you sit by my side?”.
Besides music, he also continues his path as an actor. JUN plays the main role of Su Cheng in the movie “Rebirth 2 (重生)”, which will be released in mainland China on October 3. Through this work, he plans to show another charm as an actor, by presenting not only spectacular action, but also acting with delicate emotions.
