BTS is currently the most popular Korean group, but JIMIN’s parents had to accept that their son became an idol.
In an interview with Busan art school magazine, JIMIN’s father said he spotted JIMIN’s talents early on. Very young JIMIN excelled in dance and especially in contemporary dance. Knowing this, the dance teachers and his parents advised the young man against becoming an idol.
In this interview, one of the teachers, Lee Hwa Sang spoke out, saying:
“Exactly. JIMIN had been very good at contemporary dance since entering school. He was also good at all forms of dance. When he expressed his desire to embark on the path of becoming an idol rather than working in pure dance, I felt like I was losing a genius. I knew that the path to becoming a singer and dancer was difficult and that success was not guaranteed with this type of path. That’s why I was against his decision. I couldn’t imagine he would be successful the way he is now. Either way, JIMIN is someone who goes out of their way to be successful in all of their projects. He is where he is now thanks to his continued efforts as a member of BTS.”
Faced with his son’s talent, JIMIN’s father had to resign himself to accepting his choice. But in his father’s mind it was difficult to go from a talented contemporary dancer to an idol where success is not guaranteed.
“First of all let me explain how he got accepted at Busan High School of Arts. In college there was a time when he had to think and write about what he wanted to do in the future. In his writing, he mentioned that he wanted to go to Busan High School of Arts and learn dance, using this training and combining it with music to become a celebrity. His article was very detailed and I think it was the start of his dream of becoming an idol. Sure enough, he was good at dancing and singing from an early age. I remember that in fifth grade he sang Maya’s “Azalea” during karaoke and he was able to sing the high notes very well.”

It is always difficult for a parent to let their child go down a path where there are many uncertainties, even more so when the child is good at different things, so a decision had to be made.
“If I want to be honest with you, because he was good at math and science, I wanted him to go to science high school and study more. But that didn’t mean I was against his will. Because of his article on his future, which was so perfect (laughs), I couldn’t oppose it and decided to respect his decision. JIMIN was able to convince us by using convincing arguments, JIMIN when he was young was more of a grown child, so I let him do whatever he wanted.”

JIMIN’s father must be happy that he made this decision and let his son live his dream.
Lately, the group BTS took part in the first online concert of the artists of the Big Hit label which aired on Weverse.
