IKON – DK : A festive beginning of the year!

While we have just closed 2020, the year 2021 starts rather well with DK’s birthday, celebrating its 24th anniversary.

DK, whose real name is KIM DONG HYEOK, was born on January 3rd, 1997 in the Korean capital, Seoul. His family consists of his mother and a younger sister, having lost his father at the age of eight.

In the IKON TV show, YUNHYEONG had wished to go see a hypnotist with the group, DK wanted to take the opportunity to see what made him anxious. It was during the episode where the young man was going back in time to a loved one who happened to be his late father. He evoked a memory of him before confiding that he regretted not being able to show him the man and artist he had become, promising to continue doing things that would make him proud.

Yet it is a completely different destiny that could have been offered to DK, having won the JYP Trainee Search in March 2012, deciding to join the YG ENTERTAINMENT in November the same year.

In 2013, he joined TEAM B and participated in the program WIN: WHO IS NEXT whose goal was to found the new group of the company: WINNER. He took part in the show alongside B.I, JAY, JU-NE, BOBBY and SONG, who were also trainees at the time. Unfortunately, none of them were retained for the creation of the group.

Even the former CEO and founder, YANG HYUN-SUK, had announced that the remaining group would be dissolved, DK and the rest of TEAM B remained in the company still as trainees.

We find them again with the survival show MIX AND MATCH which lasted nine episodes, from September 11, 2014 to December 16, 2014. We find TEAM B still improving after the previous defeat as well as three new trainees: JUNG CHAN-WOO, JUNG JINHYEONG and YANG HONSEOK.

The group was formed with the whole TEAM B as well as JUNG CHANWOO, being the third member chosen for the composition of IKON. They make their debut with the title «My type» on September 14, 2015 and DK as principal dancer and secondary singer.

On February 7th, 2020, IKON was then reduced to six after the departure of the leader B.I as a result of a case. With « I DECIDE » leaves its mark and proves to the public his talent for writing with the moving title « Flower ».
