The pop music concert industry has called for a correction of the rules, saying the government’s policy of “physical distancing” for related popular music concerts is discriminated against.

The Emergency Committee for the Standardization of Popular Music Performances issued a statement on March 24th, saying:
“The concerts of popular singers are classified as “gathering and event”, so it is not possible to gather more than 100 people. We call for the elimination of this discrimination compared to other shows, so as not to destroy our right to survive.”
Due to the protracted Covid19 crisis, the difficulties are spreading to the entire pop music industry and to the independent industry. Indeed, the concerts of popular singers are classified as “gathering and events”, linked to the quarantine guidelines of the Covid19, are canceled one after the other.
Currently, other kinds of performances, such as musicals, can be held by applying a distance between the spectators as specified by the sanitary rules. However, since concerts of popular singers are classified as “gatherings and events”, it is not possible to gather more than 100 people.
Consequently, LEE SORA, the group “MONSTA X“, “ENHYPEN“, “MR TROT” … cancel or postpone their events one after the other in South Korea.

The emergency committee said: “The Covid19 situation has been going on for over a year and the pop music community is on the verge of being killed. Show production companies, singer management companies, production companies and performance management companies are all under threat. They have a right to survive.“
According to the Korea Creative Content Agency’s “A Study on the Impact of Popular Music ndustry Damage due to Corona 19”, the performance planning industry and concert halls fell 82% to 18% year over year on the other.
In the 2020 performance market settlement data released by Interpark, sales of popular musical performances also fell 82.1% from the previous year. This even includes Mr Trot’s on several occasions in the first stage, and some performances have been postponed for a year under the distance keeping guidelines. In fact, we know that sales have fallen by over 90%.
“We, the business owner and head of the family, have kept our jobs as much as possible despite a 90% drop in sales”,
said the emergency committee. “But not only can we not do what we’ve been doing our whole lives, but the performance industry is always in the background.” Earlier on January 26, the emergency committee also issued a call for support. support for this sector, but currently nothing seems to be done to support the sector.
“People in the popular music and entertainment industries are still unable to work, have not received adequate support, and live in a sense of loss due to continued discrimination,” it said.
“Please look at us without prejudice and eliminate the discrimination between performances that prevent our right to survive. We urge you once again to ensure that your audience rating is judged on par with other performances.“
