BLACKPINK: A new course for “Money”

BLACKPINK’s LISA dance video hit a milestone, reaching 600 million views within 270 days of its release.

According to YG Entertainment on June 21, the exclusive performance video for LISA’s solo song “Money” surpassed 600 million views on YouTube as of 9:05 p.m. KST the day before.

It’s been about 270 days since its release on September 24 last year. LISA’s exclusive “Money” performance video surpassed 100 million views in 15 days after its release, followed by 200 million views in 38 days, 300 million views in 66 days, 400 million views in 108 days and 500 million views in 173 days.

Considering that the choreography video for BLACKPINK’s hit song “How you like that” took 250 days to surpass 600 million views, it can be seen that LISA’s ripple effect as a solo artist is significant.

“Money” is characterized by swag-filled rap lyrics and a sophisticated hip-hop sound. The song, which is a track from LISA’s debut solo album “LALISA”, was back on major charts around the world a month after the song was released. At that time, the Netflix drama “Squid Game” gained worldwide popularity, and LISA’s “Money” was used as background music in various “Squid Game”-related videos on TikTok, which is origin of its late victory in the charts.

The song topped iTunes song charts in a total of 38 countries and ranked fifth on the world’s largest music streaming platform, Spotify Global Chart. She then charted on the official UK top 100, US Billboard Hot 100 and pop airplay charts for eight weeks, earning the title of “The First K-pop Female Solo”. The music video for the song is also expected to hit 500 million views soon.
