ERIC NAM opened up to fans in a written interview ahead of his world tour in Seoul.
After setting up a private company that bears his name, ERIC NAM embarked on a full-scale world tour with the release of his second album “THERE AND BACK AGAIN” earlier this year. The North American and European performances, which took place approximately 50 times, proved his position as a global artist by playing to sold-out houses.
ERIC NAM‘s Seoul concert “ERIC NAM WORLD TOUR 2022 SEOUL” will be held at Yes24 Live Hall at 7 p.m. on November 20.
Q. How are you?
I’m doing well. Thanks. This year I’ve spent a lot of time around the world, from North America to Europe to Australia to finally Asia, filming in between. However, it was as fantastic as a dream to be able to perform new songs with a full band again.
Q. I heard that the North American and European dates, which have been taking place since January, were sold out until the last one. Do you have any memorable moments during the tour, behind-the-scenes stories about the process of preparing for the tour, or special episodes about meeting foreign fans?
Every performance, in every city, was a special experience. It was very special and encouraging for me to be able to fill venues around the world and play in such legendary venues, places where I saw my favorite musicians, from Adele to John Legend to the Beatles. And meeting fans and sharing how my music and messages have positively affected their lives, laughing and sharing sadness together was the happiest thing.
Q. After the termination of the contract with your agency, a private company was created. What is the difference ?
Because I had to invest myself independently and continue, I was very nervous in pursuing the design of the album or the tour. It was a very scary situation, but luckily there was a wonderful team around me who supported me and helped bring my thoughts and music to life.
The positive thing is that I can go faster and make decisions faster. The downside is that I often feel overwhelmed by the workload, but I’m grateful to finally be in my place.
Q. What are your plans for national activities after the performance in Korea? Are you going to release a new album or a Korean album?
There are no special plans at the moment. However, I’m still trying to find the best way to do more in Korea and hope to meet my fans more often.
Q. “Family Register Mate”, which featured younger brothers, was well received. Can we see you more often on Korean variety shows?
If you call me, I run to you. There are TV programs in discussion, but nothing concrete or confirmed yet. If you call me, I run to you!
Q. This is the first national solo performance in nearly four years. How do you feel ?
I can’t wait to be there and I’m a little nervous. At the last performance, I joked that I was an artist who performed in Korea once every four years, but I didn’t know what I was saying and that a joke would come true. It was never planned, but it took too long to happen again. Thanks.
And I’m sorry. I want to greet you more often, but it doesn’t always work out the way I would like. We will work harder in the future and come back to see you whenever we have the chance. Thank you and I love you.
Q. Is there a special performance you prepared just for the Seoul concert?
The Korean performance will be more special as it is the finale of “THE RE AND BACK AGAIN” world tour. Since this is the last performance of this year, I’m going to show you a nice ending! It’s been a while since I’ve met my fans, but I’m also going to be with lots of friends and family, so I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ve been working hard on over the past year.
I think the charm of this show is that it has a very unexpected Eric Nam. No matter what stereotypes or prejudices you have about artist Eric Nam, I hope you’ll put your thoughts aside for a while and get ready to dance, sing, and have a good time. Expect a classy, fun and energetic party.
Q. There was a tragic disaster recently. Is there a role that music can play in such a catastrophe, and is there a comfort that only music can provide?
I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families who suffer from this disaster. I have always relied on music in difficult times. I hope music will be one of the ways to bring comfort and healing to those who are hurting.
Q. Do you want to say something to the fans waiting for the concert
I really missed you a lot. I’m sorry it took so long to finally perform in Seoul, and as such, I want to show the best performance in the finale. I am always grateful, for trusting me, encouraging me, loving me and supporting me even when I am going through a difficult time. I love you all so much and look forward to seeing you soon.
