Today, December 23 at midnight (Korean time), ATEEZ revealed, on its agency KQ Entertainment‘s YouTube channel, the prologue for its first single « SPIN OFF : FROM THE WITNESS ».
The day before, on ATEEZ’s SNS, a movie-like poster was revealed at midnight for this prologue. In this one, SAN finds himself alone in an abandoned and damp shopping center, thus letting a mysterious atmosphere reign.
The prologue, which has the visual of ATEEZ, YEOSANG, in the thumbnail, highlights a whole new chapter in the plot of the group. The video, 2 minutes 46 minutes long and accompanied by music worthy of an action movie, begins with a sequence on a city that seems abandoned, or at least destroyed. « The world lost gravity » – the grey city is immersed in an apocalyptic setting with smoke billowing from the buildings, similar to fiery clouds. Many people, having their faces covered with a bandana, are shown watching strange metallic spheres, resembling levitating moons.
The members of ATEEZ (HONGJOONG, SEONGHWA, YUNHO, YEOSANG, SAN, MINGI, WOOYOUNG, JONGHO) are then shown one by one, with different looks and auras, located in different places. YUNHO, isolated from the outside world, is in a room filled with sand, holding a cup with pebbles that rise due to the gravity that has disappeared. The place also strongly resembles the one shown at the beginning of the « Answer » MV, where a man in a white suit was there.
We learn in this prologue that people lost their emotions and did nothing but wait for the return of « Halateez », the characters in the iconic black fedoras in the MV of « HALA HALA », while knowing that they would never reappear. A scarecrow wearing a black fedora and a mask with grey chains, dressed in a black cape, is also shown in this prologue. In this desolate hope, a bell rang mightily in the air and « the new Eight » appeared. Following this narration, SEONGHWA is depicted in front of this scarecrow, mimicking his position. This one seems to have just appeared since a glitch effect is added to his person, as if it was a hologram.
The prologue ends with a mysterious sequence, with sad music in the background, showing SEONGHWA noticing a person watching him from stairs before she disappears after a figure passes in front of the camera.
Lastly, ATEEZ’s first single « SPIN OFF : FROM THE WITNESS » will be released on December 30 at 2 p.m. KST and will premiere live at noon on Naver Now.
