TRIPLE S ASSEMBEE 25 - XINYU
Singer XINYU of the girl group TRIPLES has come under heavy criticism for expressing support for the “One China” policy and telling fans who disagreed with her to leave.

A photo of XINYU, a member of the massive 24-member K-pop group TRIPLES, chatting with fans on the online communication platform fromm, went viral on Friday. On fromm, fans can send messages to artists and receive direct replies from them.
In XINYU’s message, written in Chinese and auto-translated into Korean, the singer stated: “Macau has been Chinese from the beginning.”
“Hong Kong and Taiwan too,” she added. When fans asked her to stop making such statements out of concern for potential backlash, XINYU replied: “People who don’t agree with me shouldn’t follow me on fromm.”

“Why should I be afraid of being criticized? Did I say anything wrong?” she wrote.
XINYU’s stance aligns with the Chinese government’s “One China” policy, which asserts that mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau are all one country governed by Beijing.
While most Chinese citizens support this view, it led to widespread protests in Hong Kong in 2019 and 2020.
This kind of Sinocentrism has previously sparked controversy in the K-pop community. In 2015, singer Tzuyu from the girl group Twice had to apologize after waving the Taiwanese flag on television, following a wave of aggressive comments from Chinese netizens.
On the other hand, K-pop artists Victoria from f(x), Yuqi from I-DLE, and Jackson from GOT7 posted images of the Chinese flag during the 2019 Hong Kong protests, which triggered disputes among fans around the world.
