“Golden”, the original song from Netflix’s hit animated film KPOP DEMON HUNTERS, has climbed back to number one on the Official UK Top 100 Singles chart.

Performed in the film by the fictional girl group HUNTR/X, the song dethroned last week’s number one, “The subway” by Chappell Roan, to reclaim the top spot, according to figures released on Friday. This marks the first time a K-pop song has reached number one twice on the UK chart: in 2012, PSY’s “Gangnam style” had only held the top spot for one week.
The track also reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of August 16, achieving a rare chart double, just about two months after the film’s release on June 20.
Produced by the American studio Sony Pictures, KPOP DEMON HUNTERS was directed by Canadian-Korean filmmaker Maggie Kang, in collaboration with Canadian-Korean animators and partnerships with Korean K-pop agencies. The song “Golden” was written by EJAE, a former SM Entertainment trainee, along with rapper-singer Rey Ami (born in Seoul, raised in the U.S.) and artist Audrey Nuna (born in New Jersey), who also perform the vocals. Producers from the K-pop agency The Black Label also contributed to the production.
Several other tracks from the soundtrack have also charted in the UK, including “Soda pop” (No. 6), “Your idol” (No. 7), and “Takedown”(No. 35).
