The subsidiary FlashbackGround of the multimedia content company Dexter Studio released an immersive performance video in collaboration with top street dancer Rihey, as part of the immersive media art exhibition “Flashback: Gyerim”.

This collaboration represents an attempt to reinterpret historical narratives, previously static, through contemporary performance aimed at a new generation. Rihey’s intense performance, staged at the “Flashback: Gyerim” exhibition recreating the legends of Silla in an immersive experience, drew attention. This project demonstrates the impact a new interpretation of traditional culture can have, with the teaser video already surpassing 1.6 million views.
Rihey, active in the dance crews “Coca & Butter” and “Beomjeop” on Mnet “Street Woman Fighter” and “World of Street Woman Fighter”, is regarded as a representative street dancer of Korea. To deliver a performance combining the unique aesthetics of Silla with contemporary dynamics, he personally created and performed a choreography fusing hip-hop and krump styles.
The video blends surreal reproductions of Silla legend scenes, traditional Korean musical elements integrated with mechanical cyberpunk beats, and Rihey’s unique performance, offering a sensory staging linking past and future that was praised by critics.
The performance revolves around the different content universes such as “Najung”, “Geoseogan”, “Shindansu”, “Yonguigil”, and “Guardians”, with a climax depicting the dynamic energy of Silla at the start of its era against the backdrop of the monumental horse sculpture of “Geoseogan”, symbolizing the kingdom’s origins and marking the highlight of the video.
A representative of FlashbackGround stated: “Rihey was the key figure of the project, capable of accurately expressing the scope and atmosphere of “Flashback: Gyerim”. This collaboration allows for a more immersive transmission of the “Flashback: Gyerim” universe, based on the legends and myths of Silla, and we will continue various initiatives to strengthen the impact of K-Heritage through this type of content.”
