K-pop groups including TWICE and ILLIT will still perform at this year’s “NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen” despite the cancellation of many domestic festivals and events due to the Jeju Air crash in Muan on Sunday.

Some Japanese media outlets have expressed concern over the potential absence of K-pop groups from one of Japan’s biggest year-end concerts due to the Korean government’s announcement of a national mourning period that will last until January 4. The event is scheduled to take place at Tokyo’s NHK Hall on Tuesday night.
TWICE, ILLIT, TXT and LE SSERAFIM are scheduled to perform at “NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen.” None of the groups’ agencies have announced that their shows will be canceled.
“TWICE expresses its deepest condolences to the victims of the plane crash and extends its deepest sympathy to the bereaved families who are enduring indescribable pain,” JYP Entertainment said Monday.
“We will approach our previously scheduled overseas engagements with a spirit of mourning. Once again, we pray for the souls of the victims.“
The show, now in its 75th year, is a singing competition between the most popular artists of the year.
