The premiere of JTBC’s new weekend drama “GOOD BOY“, starring PARK BO GUM, recorded a 4% viewership rating on its first broadcast.

According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode of “GOOD BOY“, which aired on June 1, achieved a nationwide rating of 4.8% (among paying households). For comparison, the previous drama in this time slot, “Heavenly ever after” starring Son Seok Gu and Kim Hye Ja, premiered with 5.8% and peaked at 8.3%.
“GOOD BOY” tells the story of former national athletes who become police officers through a special recruitment program. Swapping their medals for police badges, they fight injustice and corruption in a world rife with cheating and immorality. The show blends action, comedy, and youth drama with a police procedural twist.
The main cast includes:
-
PARK BO GUM as Yoon Dong Joo, a police officer and former Olympic boxing gold medalist,
-
KIM SO HYUN as Ji Han Na, a sergeant and gold medalist in shooting,
-
LEE SANG YI as Kim Jong Hyun, a sergeant and silver medalist in fencing,
-
HEO SUNG TAE as Go Man Sik, the special task force team leader and bronze medalist in wrestling,
-
TAE WON SEOK as Shin Jae Hong, a sergeant and bronze medalist in discus throw.
In the first episode, we learn how these former athletes were specially recruited into the police force and quickly faced harsh realities. Yoon Dong Joo, unable to stand injustice, causes an incident and is demoted to the rank of patrol officer. Ji Han Na is used solely for promotional purposes to improve the police’s public image. Kim Jong Hyun is in conflict with his team after whistleblowing on internal misconduct. Go Man Sik, a single dad, constantly struggles financially. Shin Jae Hong, trying to make ends meet, voluntarily takes a low-profile traffic department position.
Despite being frequently looked down upon due to their special recruitment status, these former athletes rediscover their passion as they get involved in a high-stakes mission to take down Inseong’s biggest crime syndicate, known as the Geumtokki-pa (“Golden Rabbit Gang”). This storyline is brought to life with dynamic action sequences that have already grabbed viewers’ attention.
Episode 2 of “GOOD BOY” airs tonight at 10:30 PM.
