In Tokyo, the Korean national anthem rang out in the heart of the city.

Trot singer LEE SOO YEON, from label Totalset, performed the anthem at the “Central Ceremony for the 80th Anniversary of Liberation,” held on August 15 at the Koto Public Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
Already noted last June for moving audiences with an a cappella rendition of the anthem during the first live game of the baseball entertainment program “Flaming Baseball” (Studio C1), LEE SOO YEON once again left a deep impression at this commemorative event.
The “Central Ceremony for the 80th Anniversary of Liberation,” which featured Jinsung, Han Hyejin, and LEE SOO YEON, aimed to honor the patriotism of ancestors who dedicated themselves to independence. It carried special meaning as it marked both the 80th anniversary of Liberation and the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan. Following LEE SOO YEON’s performance, Jinsung and Han Hyejin also captivated the audience.
Jinsung delivered powerful renditions of « 님의 등불 », « 보릿고개 », « 태클을 걸지 마 », and « 안동역에서 », while Han Hyejin filled the stage with signature songs like « 서울의 밤 », « 돌아설 때 », and « 너는 내 남자 ». LEE SOO YEON closed the ceremony with « 고향의 봄 », joined by Oh Young Seok, head of the Tokyo branch of the Federation of Korean Residents in Japan (Mindan), and a children’s choir.

Through her agency, LEE SOO YEON shared:
“Every time I sing the national anthem, I feel a strong sense of responsibility, but singing it here in Japan gave me a very special emotion. I will never forget my gratitude and respect for the independence patriots who sacrificed their lives for our nation’s liberation.”
