The film “군체 (Colony)” rose to the first place of the box office on the very first day of its release.
According to data from the integrated computer network for cinema admissions of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) published on May 22, “Colony” attracted 199,759 spectators on May 21, recording a cumulative number of 218,295 spectators and thus establishing itself at the first place of the box office.
“Colony” is a film that depicts the fierce struggle of isolated survivors inside a confined building due to an infection epidemic of unknown origin, face to infected people who evolve in an unpredictable way. This is the new work of director Yeon Sangho, who notably directed “Train for Busan” (2016), “Peninsula” (2020), “Revelations” (2025) and “The ugly” (2025), and it was also invited to the Midnight Screenings section of the 79th Cannes International Film Festival. The main actors starring are Jun Ji Hyun, Koo Kyo Hwan, Ji Chang Wook, Shin Hyun Bin, Kim Shin Rok, and Go Soo.
Second place goes to “Michael”, which gathered 29,290 spectators that day, reaching a cumulative number of 807,717 spectators.
Third place is occupied by “The devil wears Prada 2”, which attracted 9,413 spectators that day, bringing its cumulative total to 1,497,605 spectators.
