Today, it sometimes only takes a few seconds to capture the public’s attention, and in Korea a new generation of artists is changing the rules of the game, smartphone in hand.

Covers, excerpts of original compositions, and short-form videos: TikTok has become a key tool for many young South Korean artists. By bypassing the traditional channels of the industry, some musicians manage to get noticed and build their audience directly online.
Artists such as SHRM (@shrmthedreamer) and YEON (@_yeonnalligi), who founded their own agency, 0310 Entertainment, illustrate this new way of emerging on the Korean music scene.
TikTok, a new showcase for emerging artists
For several years, the South Korean music industry has been largely associated with major agencies and the idol training system. However, another dynamic is developing in parallel. Thanks to social media, and particularly TikTok, young artists now have a direct way to share their music with the public.
On the platform, short-form content allows musicians to post covers, song excerpts, or original compositions. In just a few seconds, an artist can capture attention and reach thousands, or even millions, of users. For many, TikTok has become a true showcase, where creativity and spontaneity sometimes take precedence over the more formatted productions of the traditional industry.
When artists choose undependence
Some musicians even choose to go further by building their own structure. This is the case for SHRM and YEON, two artists who decided to create their own agency, 0310 Entertainment. Their goal: to develop their music while maintaining artistic freedom and using social media as their main visibility tool.
Thanks to TikTok and other platforms, they can share their musical universe directly with their audience and gradually build a community. This approach illustrates the evolution of part of the Korean music scene, where some artists now prefer to develop their careers in a more independent way.
A New Gateway into the Music Industry
The phenomenon is not limited to just a few isolated artists. More and more young Korean singers and songwriters are using TikTok to test their tracks, observe audience reactions, and gain visibility.
In some cases, a single video can be enough to attract the industry’s attention. Producers and record labels are increasingly monitoring trends on social media, where they identify artists capable of building a community even before their official debut.
While major agencies still dominate the Korean music scene, the rise of social platforms is opening up new opportunities. For a generation of connected artists, TikTok is no longer just an entertainment platform, it is also a stage, a musical laboratory, and sometimes the first step toward a professional career.
